As of the last census nearly one in five people have a disability in this country. Special needs planning is not solely for individuals with limited resources. Families with means and wealth also need to plan for disabled or special needs family members. To properly advise clients and to avoid a potential malpractice claim, it is critical for an attorney to understand Medicaid, Medicare, SSDI and SSI rules. Government public benefits rules are complex and therefore can be confusing for professionals and their clients. After attending this program, attorneys will have a fundamental knowledge of government programs and when to use each type of special needs trust. Case studies will be utilized to help attendees understand the rules.
